Kin’s Memory is your data, and thus is the essential component to making Kin so useful to you in particular.
It’s also owned entirely by you, so you can export it whenever you want.
Why would I want to back up Kin’s Memory?
Because Kin stores its Memory exclusively on your device, it’s a little more vulnerable than most data.
If you accidentally (or purposefully) delete Kin or its data from your device, or have your device damaged, lost, or stolen, there is no way for Kin to restore your data for you.
Similarly, if you change devices, Kin cannot transfer your data for you. You’ll have to export Kin’s Memory, and transfer it yourself manually.
How do I back it up?
Step 1: Open Kin’s menu
- Launch the Kin app on your device
- Open the main left-hand menu by tapping the ‘hamburger’ icon in the top left
Step 2: Open the ‘Data Control’ page
- Select ‘Settings’ from Kin’s main left-hand menu
- Select ‘Data Control’ from the bottom of Kin’s settings
Step 3: Create the back-up file
- Select ‘Back up your data’ from the ‘Data Control’ options
- Kin will prompt you to choose where to save Kin’s memory backup - either on your device, or in a cloud storage service like Google Drive. Choose your preferred option
- You’ve now backed up your Kin’s memory! Keep the file safe 😄
